Education Course: Australia Much Tougher Than In The UK
The courses in Australia are much tougher compared to UK. My own experience, my brother studying in UK will already be able to get a credit when he achieves 50% on his units but not for my sister who need to get 65% above to get a credit. This proves how tough it is for a student to get a credit in the units they are studying in.
In UK even with average grades you'll still be able to get an honors. Not in the case for Australian Universities. If the Universities in Australia recommended a student to do their honors this means the students are qualified to get their honors. Sometimes there are students who are recommended to do straight to their masters even though the student does not have honors. It's not necessary that those graduating with honors are better than those who are not.
In Australia if a student undergoes a 4-year course he or she is able to graduate with an honors but he or she needs to graduate with a minimum GPA of 5.0 equivalent to 65%. So it's not as easy as you think. Only those qualified will receive their honors not like in UK as long as you pass with an average pass you'll graduate with honors.
The reason for Australian Universities requiring students to do honors for another year would be maybe because of they want to achieve an exceptionally high standard of education.

point is, its not such a big deal. People from other parts of the world can still find jobs without honours. and for that matter, it doesnt really matter from WHERE you graduated; rather, how you handled yourself in obtaining the highest qualification you can get.
